Mountain Biking Birdwatching Somerset East
As mentioned, Wilton Guest Farm's 13 000 ha
encompass a variety of terrain, making it very interesting for both
birders and mountain bikers.
Birdwatching
Birders are more than welcome to explore the
property at their leisure and see how many species they can spot in
the grazing veld and how many in the completely different
environment along the Little Fish River.
Mountain Biking
Mountain bikers will find 45 km of "Classic
Karoo Mountain Biking. Rocky hills, distant views" (Andrew
Hugo) divided into four trails.
The Green Route is a non-technical, family
friendly 29 km ride which takes in some of the sights of the farm
including the river and a beautiful dam.
The Blue Route takes you 23 km through some
slightly more challenging terrain.
The Red Route, which is 38 km long, covers all
the more challenging sections as well as visiting all the scenic
portions of the farm.
The Black Route combines the Red and Green
Routes into a 45 km ride which will appeal to the more active
riders.
Andrew Hugo of Eastern Cape Mountain Biking
rates Wilton as 8/10 for fun factor.
In addition to the tranquillity of the Karoo,
enjoy the bonus of watching herds of Gemsbok and Kudu. You can
even arrange with your hosts to leave a picnic basket for you at the
dam!
